Stiftsquelle Optimizes Ramp Processes with SLOT System

• At its headquarters in Dorsten, the beverage bottler reduces waiting times at the ramp by more than 50 percent with the cloud-based software by Cargoclix. 
• With the help of the tool, the company wants to increase the number of shipments per day by a third in the long term.

(Freiburg i.Br., 11.12.2019) The medium-sized beverage bottler Stiftsquelle/Johannes Spielmann will rely on the time slot management system “SLOT” by Cargoclix at its headquarters in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia in the future. With the help of the cloud-based software of the Freiburg IT specialist, the company wants to reduce the waiting times for trucks at its three ramps in the goods issue area by more than half. “Up to now a driver had to wait three hours from driving on to leaving our premises in the worst case, with SLOT it is now a maximum of 1.5 hours,” says Markus Ott, logistics manager at Stiftsquelle.

Stiftsquelle chose SLOT partly because of the tool’s good ratings on the Internet. “In addition, several companies in the beverage industry are already using the Cargoclix software – thus the additional registration on other platforms or their use is no longer necessary,” emphasizes Ott. SLOT is being used at a total of three ramps, where up to now a total of 24 vehicles could be handled daily. “Thanks to the ability to plan the following day, we will be able to provide the goods the day before in the future and thus, in the long term make possible up to 36 congestion-free loading operations on all three lanes per day – that means more than 600 per month and a good third more than before,” Ott continues. “From now on, we can distribute the daily workload evenly and predictably throughout the day and optimise operational processes”.

Logistics service providers can book the time slots at Stiftsquelle in SLOT 30 days in advance. Short-term bookings are possible until 12 noon the day before, provided that the customer’s order has also been received by 12 noon the day before. The costs of 50 cents per time slot booking are borne by the booking companies, i.e. the customers themselves or the forwarding agents commissioned by the customer. “Not everyone was prepared to pay this contribution, but after a brief discussion we were able to convince everyone of the advantages,” reports Managing Director at Stiftsquelle, Sebastian Brodmann.

The company sees a further advantage in the ease with which the system can be set up. “This is the really big advantage, even for medium-sized companies,” he adds. “The system is similar to an online appointment calendar, for example at the doctor’s office or at public authorities,” says Markus Ott, describing his work with the software. “This prevents too many appointments from being booked at the same time and avoids traffic jams and long waiting times on the company premises”.
