Coronavirus: Cargoclix sets up Task Force for SLOT
- Freiburg Internet marketplace installs time slot management system within 24 hours
- Slot reservations in the food industry increase by around 20 percent.
- Software provider advises companies to prepare for ramp-up phase now
(Freiburg i.Br., 9.4.2020) The spread of the Covid 19 pandemic is stirring up the otherwise well-oiled supply chains. Truck drivers in the food and grocery retail industry are currently reporting long waiting times for loading and unloading at the ramps. The Freiburg Internet marketplace Cargoclix has now set up a task force which will install the modularly adaptable timeslot management system, which is currently used by more than 65,000 members, within 24 hours. The installation is free of charge, provided no complex interfaces have to be programmed. The booking of a timeslot costs 50 cents. The booking costs can be borne either by the site operators or their logistics service providers.
“We have adjusted our capacities in such a way that anyone who wants to act in the current situation can also immediately control and optimize the processes and personnel deployment at the ramp with SLOT,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Victor Meier, consulting partner at Cargoclix.
Meier advises companies now to prepare themselves logistically for the ramp-up phase after the shutdown – and to use suitable tools for this. “When the economic motor gets going again, the companies that are well positioned digitally in logistics will be ahead of the pack,” emphasizes Meier. In his opinion, there is still a lot of catching up to do in this area, especially for medium-sized companies.
According to an analysis by Cargoclix, during the lockdown in the last week of March manufacturers and retailers of beverages and food booked 21 percent more time slots for loading and unloading trucks than in the last week of February. For the report the software experts analyzed 32 customers of the timeslot management system SLOT.
On the other hand, the automobile manufacturers and their suppliers are severely affected. During the lockdown in the first week of April, according to a further analysis by Cargoclix, almost 50 percent fewer timeslots were booked in this area than in the last week of February. Seven of the 32 companies evaluated in total did not reserve a slot at all at the beginning of this month.
